Programme Introduction

There is an increasing need for professionals in health preservation and development, as well as in prevention and rehabilitation, who can address the prevention and treatment of physical illnesses and related mental health issues from a health-centred perspective. The Health Psychology MA program will represent progress in professional training by incorporating new specialized subjects into the curriculum, allowing for a deeper exploration of these topics.

Structure of studies

The course is theory-oriented and includes practical work as well. The disciplines and specializations leading to the qualification from which the degree is built:

  • Health Management Studies (project planning, presentation skills development)
  • Theoretical and Clinical Medical Sciences (genetics, behavioural addiction studies, neuroanatomy, psychopharmacology)
  • Applied Health Sciences (public health, health law, statistics, research methodology, health and sports psychology, dietetics)
  • Applied Psychological Sciences (developmental and personality psychology, cognitive psychology, social psychology, career socialization, psychological assessment, and psychotherapy)
  • 10 weeks of practical training in parallel with the program.

Language requirements of the course

  • TOEFL 513 / IELTS 5.5 /oral examination, TOEFL IBT test score of 66 (issued in the last two years).
  • Certificate of any standardised international English language exam corresponding with Hungarian B2 at the Bachelors level and C1 at Master’s level issued by an accredited language centre/ academic institution.
  • In case the student has completed his/her previous level of studies in English, proof can be uploaded about the fact that the language of instruction was English, issued by the institution.
  • If the uploaded document(s) do(es) not meet the above-mentioned requirements, the University relies on an online language interview.

Academic requirements of the course

Completed and signed application form, copy of your passport, notarized copy of Bachelor’s degree relevant to the Master’s studies, notarized copy of the Transcript of Records, notarized copy of your language certificate, recent photograph, Curriculum Vitae (resumé) in English, Academic Reference letter in English (Issued by your former academic institution/teacher).

 

A certified copy of a Psychology BA or BSc degree from any higher education institution, and an English-language motivation letter (minimum 1000, maximum 2000 characters) must be added to the application. Certified copy of your English language proficiency (certificate), recent photograph, Curriculum Vitae (resumé) in English.

Job opportunities

After completing the programme, students will be able to work in various settings to improve the individual’s mental health and also address those psychological factors which impact health in general. The career opportunities for health psychologists are multiple: they can work in hospitals and outpatient clinics, provide psychological assessments in research setting or psychiatric establishments, interventions and support for patients with chronic illnesses. They may also pursue an academic career by conducting research on the psychological aspects of health and illness. It is also a possibility for them to participate in health promotion, sports and exercise settings, develop programs and strategies the level of primary, secondary and also tertiary intervention.
